    Interesting:
Gov. Bobby Jindal said he's staying out of the upcoming Senate race between Republican incumbent David Vitter and his Democratic challenger, Rep. Charlie Melancon.  "Voters can make up their own minds," Jindal said.

The Republican governor said he does not get involved in federal races. However, Jindal was a special guest at a 2008 fundraiser for Baton Rouge Rep. Bill Cassidy's campaign. The governor also endorsed Woody Jenkins in his failed bid for Congress.
There are three ways to interpret this from where I sit.

    (1) Vitter's relatively old plus newer scandals = vulnerability, and the popular governor doesn't want to attach his name to a loser.  Verdict: Highly unlikely.

    (2) Jindal's moral and religious views prevent him from endorsing Vitter due to his, er, indiscretions.  It's not personal or political; it's about principle, and the Gov would withhold his endorsement even if the race were close and the NRSC was leaning on him to help out.  Then why the fudging on the "I don't do federal races" business?  Verdict: Conceivable, maybe, considering Jindal's devoutness

    (3) Vitter's seat has been deemed so safe by national Republicans that the popular governor gets a pass on an endorsement that could haunt him down the road.  Verdict: We have a winner.

Or am I missing another scenario?

Shhh.  This poll broke over a holiday weekend, so let's just let the DSCC pretend it didn't really happen:
In an election for the open United States Senator seat from Kentucky today, 09/02/10, Republican Rand Paul defeats Democrat Jack Conway, 55% to 40%, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for the Louisville Courier-Journal and WHAS-TV.
Ed mentioned the eye-popping lead Paul holds among men (65-31), but note how the rabid/right-wing/risky/tea party Republican candidate fares among young voters:

    [Age 18-34]
    Paul (R) 60%
    Conway (D) 33%

    Wither Obama Zombies?

I'll leave you with this analysis to ponder: Democrats could virtually guarantee holding the Senate by picking off a seat currently held by the GOP.  As the midterm election picture began to take shape, the conventional wisdom informed us that their best opportunities to do so were: Florida, Missouri, Ohio, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Kentucky (after Paul was nominated).  Follow any of those links and you'll start to smell what Charlie Cook is cooking.

America's largest public employees union, AFSCME, is preparing to launch a $1.5 Million ad campaign in three rust-belt states (plus Nevada).  The message is subtle: Republicans don't care about jobs and they hate teachers, sick people, and the elderly.

Something tells me this sort of demagogic ad will fall on deaf ears with most Americans.

Following up on Jillian's posts from today: She's already highlighted the new multi-billion dollar transportation son-of-stimulus plan the president is promoting.  ("It will be fully paid for," he promises--just like the health care bill was, right?)  She's also posted the video, which merits another go 'round:

Hugh Hewitt immediately noticed this bizarre remark delivered today at an event called "Laborfest" in Milwaukee, WI:
Mr. Obama also used Monday’s appearance here to deliver a hearty defense of his policies and take a few whacks at Republicans. “They talk about me like a dog,” the president said. “That’s not in my prepared remarks, but it’s true.” And Mr. Obama repeatedly referred to the House Republican leader, Representative John Boehner, as “the man who wants to be speaker.”
Off-prompter and off message.  As Hugh points out, this sort of self pity is a bit unseemly and certainly not presidential.  Even in the wake of the Left's most vicious anti-Bush jeremiads, I can't recall our 43rd president publicly whinging about how Democrats in Congress, unnamed lefty "special interests," or anyone else talked about him--even when they said things like this:

Or this.  Or this, just to cite a few.

It's also not clear what precisely the president meant by this comment, or if he has a specific example in mind.  Please expand, Mr. President.

In this clip, Obama lets his audience know he actually made a statement that wasn't in his "prepared remarks." It's remarkable that Obama deviates from his talking points so infrequently that doing so requires a special announcement.

Obama is calling for an additional $50 billion to be spent on infrastructure, a national high-speed rail line, and some sort of regulated earmark program, all of which will be paid for by a tax on energy companies.
This will not only create jobs immediately, it's also going to make our economy hum in the long-run...It's a plan that history tells us can and should attract bipartisan support. It's a plan that says even in the still-smoldering aftermath of the worst recession in our lifetimes, America can act to shape our own destiny, to move this country forward, to leave our children something better -- something that lasts.
The only thing he's going to leave for our children is a higher national debt.

This obviously is an AFL-CIO/Democrat Party talking point. Remember on Friday when the AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer, Elizabeth Shuler initiated the "Obama created more jobs than Bush" myth on MSNBC? Remember too, a few weeks back when Trumka said "We don't have a deficit crisis"? These Union thugs must think that Americans are as powerless as their members. Well, my Card Check cronies, we'll see soon enough...
